Spanning a total of 367 square meters, the Yi Family Friendly residence is meticulously designed to cater to the needs and preferences of each generation. The five floors are connected, yet each maintains its own private space, ensuring a sense of independence and privacy for everyone involved. The design team, led by Wen Lung Chen, carefully curated distinctive aesthetics and lifestyles for each floor, resulting in a holistic yet diverse living experience.
The common areas, located on the first floor, feature an open concept design with a color palette dominated by soothing grey tones. By seamlessly transitioning between different materials, such as marble and wooden grating, the designers have successfully captured a luxurious Eastern spirit. European-style wall patterns add a touch of fading elegance, balancing out the heavier colors in the space. This dynamic environment sets the stage for family members to come together or enjoy moments of solitude.
The parents' room, characterized by daring colors and materials, showcases a modern character. In contrast, the grandparents' room exudes elegance and tranquility with its marble and wood finishes. The children's rooms embrace a creative rural American style, creating a color-rich and playful atmosphere. The library, with its soft colors, reflects the sweetness of family time and provides a cozy space for relaxation and learning.
The traffic flow throughout the residence is carefully orchestrated through the use of color layers and material changes. This not only enhances the relationship between spaces but also creates a sense of harmony and balance. Contrary elements, such as East and West, delicate and mottled, and quietness and luxury, are seamlessly blended together, resulting in a modern interpretation of Zen aesthetics.
Wen Lung Chen and the design team faced several challenges in bringing the Yi Family Friendly residence to life. The integration of classic Eastern touches, such as the tidy grating and artwork in ceramic and glaze, required meticulous attention to detail. The sleek metal frames juxtaposed with dynamic marble walls create a visually striking contrast. Additionally, the pairing of East and West elements subtly transforms intergenerational conflicts, fostering a sense of unity and understanding.
Completed in 2020 after seven months of dedicated work, the Yi Family Friendly residence is a testament to the designer's deep understanding of Chinese culture and the evolving needs of modern families. By providing a solution for the challenges of multi-generational living, this design offers a harmonious and adaptable space for families to thrive.
